Here is how it works: First, your organization must offer a Highmark medical plan through PA Chamber Insurance, Inc. When you hire a new employee who enrolls in a Highmark medical plan, notify PA Chamber Insurance by mail, fax or via the web site. Additionally, be sure to notify PCI Insurance when an employee leaves employment or drops Highmark coverage. PA Chamber Insurance will inform Highmark Benefits Administrators of the enrollment change(s). For a new hire, Highmark Benefits Administrators will send the legally required "COBRA Rights" notification to the employee's home. For an employee that has left the organization, again (as with new hires) you need to notify PA Chamber Insurance. Highmark Benefits Administrators will send the required qualifying event notice. Highmark Benefits Administrators will also track the appropriate timelines, receive and process any subsequent enrollment documents, bill the employee directly and collect and disburse the premium directly to the carriers. Each month thereafter, Highmark Benefits Administrators will invoice the continuant and collect/disburse premiums on your behalf. There is no administrative inconvenience for you. Your liability is substantially reduced and you never have to worry about paying premiums in advance to the carriers, while waiting to receive payment from the former employee. Please also remember that this service applies to dental and vision coverage the employee may have had in addition to the Highmark medical plan.
